Hi, I’m Navin. I usually live in Sydney, Australia.

I help build software systems. I prefer the functional style of programming and am partial to working with a statically typed language, with property-based testing. I have written production software in OCaml, Haskell, Clojure, Rust, Python, Ruby and Javascript.

I am a co-founder of Anamorphic Digital where our focus is on accelerating the regenerative economy. Our first product is TANK, a system for helping folks flourish and live life to the full while preventing burnout.

I also do small consulting projects with early stage startups. I am interested in products that make it simpler to make the complex decisions that are essential to public policy and change.

Here is my user manual.

The journey so far

I studied Computer Science when Z-80s and 6502s were the microprocessors of the day and the university lab splurged on a bunch of NeXT workstations. Some mathematicians on campus were nice to me and pointed out that I found maths to be a lot of fun and University was supposed to be about having fun. An amazing 10 years later I found myself with a PhD in pure mathematics and a couple of publications to my name.

I left academia in the late ’90s and worked for a decade in the Information Security industry. During this time I developed a deep understanding of Public Key Infrastructure. I also worked as a consultant and a manager at a bank and experienced the trials and tribulations of managing Information Risk.

In 2010 I switched careers again to refocus on programming. Since then I’ve worked as a web developer, data scientist (very briefly), data engineer and architect. I’ve realised that I enjoy being hands-on and I also enjoy helping engineers Get Things Done. A couple of years ago I worked with the lovely people at Cogent who showed me how individuals and teams can learn to function without drama, and that conflict can be without casualties. I find it gratifying to help individuals and teams with this knowledge and experience.

If there’s one thing that’s been a constant, it’s that I like to learn - really a lot.
